Vikas Sahyog Kendra (VSK) emerged from the Sukha Mukti Abhiyan, a Drought Proofing Campaign in Palamau District in the early 1990s, led by Pani Chetna Manch—a forum of NGOs, social activists, and experts. From 1992 to 1996, the campaign implemented 140 water-harvesting structures across 125 villages in collaboration with district administration and local communities, showcasing sustainable water management. Pani Chetna Manch evolved into VSK, formally registered as a non-profit society in 2000. Since then, VSK has been active in Palamau, Latehar, and Garhwa districts of Jharkhand, continuing its mission of community-driven development.
Vikas Sahyog Kendra (VSK) focuses on empowering tribal and marginalized communities through social mobilization, skill development, and strengthening women’s self-reliance. It works to reduce hunger by ensuring access to government schemes, improving farming practices, and building community-based organizations (CBOs). VSK promotes sustainable livelihoods, strengthens Panchayati Raj Institutions, and fosters transparency and accountability through social audits and public hearings. It also builds networks with women, farmers, laborers, and youth for resource accessibility while advancing rural economies through natural resource management and participatory planning.
